Course background

At the request of local authorities, IRRV is running this workshop to give attendees a topical look at complex issues within Benefits Administration – Persons from Abroad, Benefit Cap and Discretionary Housing Payments.

Aim

To share best practice and thinking on the issues faced by benefits practitioners. The day will be of relevance to persons involved in the day to day administration of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction including those who have to make the decisions.

The programme includes :

Part One – Persons From Abroad

  • Background to PFA
  • EEA Nationals including the new restrictions
  • Non EEA Nationals
  • The Process and 3 tests
  • Workshop – current administration/case issues

Part Two – Benefit Cap

  • Overview of the process
  • Overview of the Calculation
  • Latest update on implementation

Part Three - DHP

  • Review Criteria for making awards
  • Funding and Management of DHP Budget
  • Current Issues in DHP

Part Four – Review and Close


The day is designed to be interactive and promotes sharing of knowledge and best practice. Timings are indicative and are subject to change on the day.

COURSE LEADER : LES ROBERTSON

The Course will be facilitated by Les Robertson IRRV, who is the immediate past Institute Scottish Association President and Education Liaison Officer for Scotland.

Les is a respected Revenues and Benefit practitioner with over 20 years of experience in these fields.

Les is a current tutor for both Benefits Technician and Revenues Technician courses run by the IRRV, as well as being a Distance Learning Tutor and Examiner.

Value for money seminar :

The workshop represents excellent value for money, with seminar fees starting at only £125 + VAT. This includes lunch, refreshments, and training materials.

As places are limited, early booking is recommended. The IRRV regrets that, under normal circumstances, delegate fees cannot be refunded. However, delegate substitutions may be made at no cost at any time prior to the Seminar, subject to these being notified to the Institute.

How to Book

Please complete the booking form and send/fax it to the address above.   You may also e-mail bookings to scotland@irrv.org.uk.   Full joining instructions will be sent to delegates once a booking form has been received.

Please note that every 4th delegate from the same organisation comes entirely free of charge.
